The Orange Peel

Year of Kings. Day 194. Dark City Kings are playing the Orange Peel on January 11. With Fashion Bath and Aunt Vicki. This is the plan to sell out The Orange Peel. In the lead up to the show the bands get on: three area radio stations (WNCW, Asheville FM, The River) + two local newspapers (Citizen Times + Mountain XPress) + underground media (Buzz Radio + WNC Original Music + Holy Crap Records Podcast + Live Music Asheville) + one local tv station (WLOS) + 50 posters + social media stuff. Also be extra nice and friendly.

Day 195. Playing at The Orange Peel is a transformative experience. What I mean is… standing on a stage that big, in front of that size of an audience… you have to let go a lot of the BS. You have to let your insecurities fall away, at least for the duration of the set. You are there to create a transformative experience for others, to create a world where art is real, joy is real, heartbreak is real. So you have to transform.

Year of Kings. Day 196. Being in a band is the perfect combination of ART + BAD BEHAVIOR. And BAD BEHAVIOR is more important than the ART. If you get too into ART and being a musician and being technical - that’s no fun. But if you’re all about the BAD BEHAVIOR, well, that’s still a rock band - and an entertaining show.

Year of Kings. Day 197. Show 20. The Railyard Tonight. 7pm. We’re gonna be like an Irish pub band, just hanging out in a corner, getting drunker and louder as the night goes on!
