Track Listing (5-10)

Year of Queens. Day 45. Track 5: Buckminster Fuller. This is a Colleen Rose written tune which got turned into a story about @blackmountaincollege. The “bah-bah-bahs” have been described as muppet-like. Which is a massive compliment for us. Year of Queens. Day 46. Song 6. St Margaret’s Cotillion. I pay too much attention to my dreams and lyrics and melodies that visit me at 5am. The verse lyrics are about a hyper realistic JD Salinger infused dream. The band thinks this was a totally finished song when I brought it to practice but the chorus is a freestyle: “Lost again and I don’t know what to do. There’s an easy road but it’s not the road we choose.” Great guitar by Merlin. https://open.spotify.com/track/2tfv0K900yoT0P6DOzOaaQ?si=M2fcTTgFTjKc6vdJ_u0MTg&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0vncizKATedJu6tEQ4QX47

Year of Queens. Day 50. Song 7: New Suit. This is the most classic garage rock song on the album. The funny thing about this song is we didn’t know how to end this song ever. We played all these songs and played them out - and never knew. So we played it in the studio and got to the second chorus and still didn’t know how to end it… so we just played it and it worked out. https://open.spotify.com/track/41cMS7vWF8dOOpVtDmIvWb?si=PTdLHlPUTLW3wjPE1hv3fQ&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0vncizKATedJu6tEQ4QX47

Years of Queens. Day 55. Song 8: Helicopter. There’s a group of songs that were written around the same time and were trying to figure out how indie bands like The Cure and Duran Duran wrote such catchy pop songs. Helicopter is from that collection of songs. https://open.spotify.com/track/0DJo02siivcmtjaoQAMTcL?si=L7xWTJr8SNKFKBbZFahqkw&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0vncizKATedJu6tEQ4QX47

Year of Queens. Day 57. Song 9: Shaking Us To The Ground. We had time, maybe, for one more song in the recording session. Merlin was adamant we had to record “Shaking Us To The Ground.” This was our only one-take. Most of the songs we played 5-6 times until we had a good take that we could build on. This - we played once - and it was done. Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/track/1M6BXRoX7CLafCW2Eyfo9k?si=HdEnu6HeQcWe0UYUbbK-Mg&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A0vncizKATedJu6tEQ4QX47

Year of Queens. Day 60. Last song on the album: Love is Punk. Being in a band is like being in a relationship. You have these intense experiences together and you have to look after each other. Sometimes it falls apart. Sometimes it hurts. But it’s better to be in a band than not in a band. It’s better to try than not to try. It’s better to give everything. Love is Punk - and LOVE IS PUNK! https://open.spotify.com/track/1duIvkN2l02xMBPpIoMlLq?si=HlSTJR6nR22nrmI8jT1VKg
