The 7th King

Year of Kings. Day 321. This is what happened - about a year ago the first version of Dark City Kings was coming off the rails. Then Kyrie and Merlin walked into our practices - and we had this burst of energy and we played a show every week-and-a-half, and practiced for hours each week, and wrote a whole bunch of songs. And then Kevin Moloney showed up out of the ether - total magic. We played places like The Orange Peel. We recorded and album. It was all such a miracle - so we want to see what happens next. @merlinthemusician @kevin.moloney.music

Year of Kings. Day 322. Punk. Indie. Alt. Indie Alt-Wave. Joy Punk. Punk Joy. Love is Punk. The Waterboys fronted by Debbie Harry. Some traditional instruments like cajon and fiddle but really trying to stay in the tradition of smart art pop of the 80s like The Cure, B-52s, Duran Duran, INXS…

Year of Kings. Day 323. The Seventh King. There’s a title for you. Irishman. Wizard. I keep waiting for a reality tv crew to jump our from behind a curtain - it’s all been an elaborate show/game to have Kevin Moloney @kevin.moloney.music work with us. A certain magic happens when the kindness is shared, and it becomes amplified, and everything seems to glow and levitate. When I talk about the new music I use word like “fat” “wide” “deep” “true.” It feels old without being old. It’s fun and light and you hear the laughter in these songs. There’s a magic in these common stories. Some of that magic was there, certainly in my bandmates, but it has been taken and amplified and made to shine by Kevin Moloney. @kevin.moloney.music

Year of Kings. Day 324. The back beat? Emphasizing the 2nd and 4th beat of each bar. 3/4 time. One very nice parts of this band is an interest in finding a groove, finding a little movement, a little push and pull, a little sway, a little bop.
