Giving Luck a Chance
Year of Kings. Day 312. Trying to figure out the best “love is punk” design - it’s gotta be something you can draw on the bathroom wall easily and quickly.
Year of Kings. Day 313. We want to make a great t-shirt.
Year of Kings. Day 314. Merlin had this idea - I hope I’m right here Merlin - to make a Dark City King stencil part of the CD and vinyl packaging for our upcoming release. This is a nod to New Order’s single “Blue Monday” which was like a cut out floppy disk and a nod to street art - because you’ll be able to spray paint “dark city kings” or “love is punk” all around town.
Year of Kings. Day 315. Tracks are being mastered. Summer shows are being booked - every weekend from May 15 to July 1. A couple of small festivals. Keep going. Organizing new songs to see what we want to do in terms of live shows and future recordings.
Year of Kings. Day 316. Someone got a new guitar!
Year of Kings. Day 317. We have the masters. Working with David Saich at Fiasco Pictures (one of my energetic artistic spiritual punk rock brothers) for a video from the recording session. It sounds so much better than I could have ever imagined. A true collaboration with this gang. Sweet little songs made massive by Kevin Moloney (another one of my energetic artistic spiritual punk rock brothers).
Year of Kings. Day 318. There are major labels who can sell music. And there are minor labels who can sell music. Back in the 80s you had Rough Trade, Creation, Factory, 4AD. Places where there was also support for the artist. We believe - we do - that our album deserves to be heard. So the game is to find all the minor labels who can sell music and then find ways to get them to listen to our release. Step 1 - find the labels and make that list.
Year of Kings. Day 319. Just saying.
Year of Kings. Day 320. I had a teacher in an advertising class who said to send out your resume to 30 advertising agencies and you’ll get three interviews and 1 job. I’ve always believed in that ratio - and when I send out Dark City Kings songs to venues, radio stations, music publications I send out 30 emails. I’m looking through all my connections and LinkedIn to see if I know anyone who knows anyone at these labels. And I’m thinking about other ways to get their attention. We have to give luck a chance to work.
