Love Is Punk Tour
Year of Queens. Day 2. Love Is Punk Tour. As we’re figuring our label and management stuff we’ll be playing our new album “Love Is Punk” everywhere this summer. And we’ll be screen printing “Love Is Punk” t-shirts at the venues.
Year of Queens. Day 3. Happy birthday Craig. Spoiler alert - he’s playing drums now. Come out to The Outpost this a Friday evening and see Craig playing drums!!
Year of Queens. Day 4. “Trouble” going on the radio in South Africa for 8 weeks. Year of Kings - Year of Queens. We are at a hinge moment. The story isn’t over. We’re releasing “Love Is Punk,” recorded with @kevin.moloney.music, and now we want to see what happens. It’s a good record. So the idea for this year is to wake up and see what happens when we try to share it with the world.
Year of Queens. Day 5. Show 1. @ashevilleoutpost at 7:30 with our buddies @the_40_20_10s and @fashionbathasheville. This is an evening with some very talented artists who are all aiming toward their best idea of beauty. The location is beautiful the music is beautiful. Have a couple of beers and laugh and get up and dance.
Year of Queens. Day 6. Played the new album live for the first time. First show with Craig drumming. Thank to @ashevilleoutpost and @the_40_20_10s and @fashionbathasheville for a great nice last night. Sound was wonderful. It makes such a difference on stage.
Year of Queens. Day seven. I always liked the crooks and the fast talkers and the conmen and people playing three cars monte on the streets of New York City. I like the people who are working all the angles, who play life like it’s a game. In the Year of Kings I saw the angles. I’ve been around enough to see how the local scene works. The Year of Queens is about going outside our neighborhood into the wider world and seeing what happens when we walk into the unknown.
Year of Queens. Day 8. We did a LOT during the Year of Kings. We set goals, aimed out ship in a certain direction. What happens during the Year of Queens? The one thing that didn’t happen on the Year of Kings is we didn’t open for a bigger band - like Lucinda Williams or Blondie - when they played Asheville. So we’re keeping that on the list. We want some representation too, either from a label or management to help share our music. Of course we want to go into the studio again with @kevin.moloney.music. (I’m cautiously optimistic that the songs we’re writing now are even better.) But first things first - we have to release “Love Is Punk” - maybe August or maybe September - and figure out how to have a massive party!
Year of Queens. Day 9. I love the scammers, the people that think life is a game, this is a system to figure out and to win. The BBC has a hub where you can upload music and share it to all their music stations, shows, presenters. There’s also a site called submit hub where you can upload music and then share it to Spotify curators.
Year of Queens. Day 10. Here’s Craig playing drums for the first time. Half the show is Craig. He looks like a mountain and just has the best time on stage, goofing and cracking up. My favorite thing is making him laugh - but not so much that he loses the beat.
Year of Queens. Day 11. It’s time to organize the release. July? August? September? Find a venue. Invite other bands? Order CDs - that takes about a month. Upload to Spotify - that takes about a month too. Vinyl? To get on Spotify playlists we need to approach them before the album is released. Hire a small PR company. Design the cover. Write a press release. Posters. Local radio and local media….
Year of Queens. Day 12. We’re playing at @shilohandgaines on Saturday night, 9pm to midnight. If you haven’t been there - come on down. The space is great and the sound system is amazing. We haven’t played a three hour show in a while so this will be fun to see if we can pull it off, pull it together, drink too much, dance around, try new stuff, see if it all works.
