Smoke, Whiskey, Broom

Year of Queens. Day 13. Show 2. Shiloh & Gaines. 9pm. Playing the album “Love Is Punk” plus a bunch of new new stuff and old favorites. Should I bring the smoke machine?

Year of Queens. Day 14. Kyrie - the most amazing fiddle player ever - is getting married! Congratulations!

Year of Queens. Day 15. How are we doing? How is the year starting? Well… some bumps… our singer lost her voice and then regained her voice. But still? What does it mean? Times of change? Times of growth?

Year of Queens. Day 16. We had a man dance with a broom on Saturday night. We had a couple slow dance by the pool table. We had a smoke machine. We had shots of Irish Whiskey.

Year of Queens. Day 17. Got emails from two venues yesterday. Two of the biggest/coolest stages. One out in Charlotte. So Dark City Kings will be doing some traveling and getting our sound out to a wider and wider audience.

As we move forward, book interesting shows, feel the momentum - we also have life happening around us. Dark City Kings will be playing Sky Grog this Saturday and then we had to cancel our show at One World Brewing West the following weekend and then the Bele Shred Festival the weekend after that.

We’re gonna be a little light on Saturday night at @slygrog with @puppyandthedogs and @shortycanteatbooks. Complicated lives but probably four of us playing a more punk rock set. It’s Bayla’s birthday so come on out and have fun with us!

Year of Queens. Day 18. Show 3. Sly Grog tonight at 8pm. Bayla’s birthday. Playing with the amazing @puppyandthedogs and @shortycanteatbooks!

Year of Queens. Day 19. I don’t share a lot of photos of other bands - sorry - but that is @shortycanteatbooks and they are playing drums on a mannequin’s butt. Last night at @slygrog with Shorty and @puppyandthedogs. Just such talented musicians and wonderful music.

Year of Queens. Day 20. We dress sharp. This is a thing for us. This is a show. We want to look good, cohesive, matching, aligned. As a gang - we are more than the sum of our parts. We missed Colleen and Kyrie on Saturday night. When we’re all on stage together the parts fit together and we’re like a f*cking hurricane. We did fine on Saturday night - but when we’re all together we’re a f*cking hurricane. A beautiful f*cking hurricane.

Year of Queens. Day 21. The past year felt like we were getting blown out of a cannon, or maybe a rocket ship pulling away from earth’s atmosphere. There are stories and shifts happening right now and we are a team of astronauts heading out beyond our world.
