Day 221. Year of Queens. It’s been such a nice road trip. Just to see people listening and not heading to the bar but kind of pulled in and we just want to connect and share our stories.

Year of Queens. Day 222. Drunk tests. When I was younger, at the end of the night, when everyone was drunk, we’d start having drunk tests. It was great fun. I’d go “you’re drunk” and the person would go “no I’m not” and I’d go “if you can hop on one leg and sing the national anthem then you’re not drunk” and they’d do it. On Friday night I was sitting in the back of a jazz club after midnight, after our show, and Colleen said “tell Merlin we need new cymbals” and I though she was drunk-testing me because DCK doesn’t even have a drum kit. I told Merlin anyway - but she meant we need Merlin’s kid Charlie to draw the band symbols for new graphics and stickers and t-shirts. Drunk tests! It’s a fun game to play on your friends.

Year of Queens. Something is happening. We’re going wild…

Year of Queens. Day 223. Eat tacos with hot sauce - pasta with cold sauce. Eat with your fingers and forget about forks.

Year of Queens. Day 224. We have a date for our next recording. We’re going to head back into the studio and put down another 10 tracks. We’ve been writing and writing and we’ll figure out what from our collection feels the most true, the most real.

Year of Queens. Day 225. And we’re really excited to go back into the studio with @kevin.moloney.music !!!! The best!

Year of Queens. Day 226. We were in the studio a year ago with Kevin Moloney. It felt so full of life and the ideas and melodies were just flowing. It was almost frightening. Like we didn’t know what was going to happen next. Like we were trying to attach ourselves to a much bigger wilder secret world. So we kept the doors open and wrote and wrote.

Year of Queens. Day 227. I don’t believe in the old way and I don’t believe in the new way. I don’t believe in yesterday’s cruelties and I certainly don’t believe in today’s cruelties. I’ve done enough yelling to believe in introspection and kindness and working with a group of friends to create something beautiful.

Year of Queens. Day 228. This is the start of the next recording process. We’re inviting in Kevin to our practice on Thursday night and pulling in some additional musicians to hear how they sound with our songs. The process needs a lot of ego and self-belief and no ego at the same time. It’s all about the songs.
