Showtime

Year of Queens. Day 61. I enjoy the connection of our ship of fools and this old homestead up in the Swannanoa Mountains. Drink beers and hang out on a Sunday afternoon and play music. And with this grounding we try to create something new and real and beautiful.

Year of Queens. Day 62. We’ve been hibernating for a little while - and now it looks like we will explode for a week. In the past couple of days a publication has asked what is the favorite art-pop song of each band member? Another publication asked each band member to sketch another band member. Why not? Why not?

Year of Queens. Day 63. This just popped up. Craig has been working at the White Horse for years and he’s retiring. We’re gonna play a set next Thursday night.

Year of Queens. Day 64. Craig. I really met him because he worked at White Horse in Black Mountain. He managed the door and greeted the bands. He just always made me feel welcome and comfortable at the White Horse, and then I started to look for him cause he was so easy to hang out with, and then we played in the same band together. Craig’s energy is a big part of our show. I’m grateful.

Year of Queens. Day 65. Some of you know that Colleen has been away for June and July - but she’s gonna be back in town for the two shows next week! They are going to be TOTAL energy bombastic fun! Look out world!

Year of Queens. Day 66. Back to practice this afternoon. Up in an old homestead in the Swannanoa Mountains.

Year of Queens. Day 67. Yeah those are our crowns!!!

Year of Queens. Day 68. We got some more music media covering our album release of “Love Is Punk” - https://jammerzine.com/the-dark-city-kings-love-is-punk/. “There is this common thread of playfulness, jollity, and intellectuality, too. It’s as if Irish music, pop, and rock all met in a classroom at Berkeley and decided to form a trio.”

Year of Queens. Day 69. You know our first show was at Jack-of-the-Wood during AVL Fest. That’s Aug 5 2023. So we’ve been doing this, with this band configuration, for just about a year. I lots happened in this year - to say the least…. a total adventure.

Year of Queens. Day 70. Tuba!!!!!

Year of Queens. Day 71. Power was out at Craig’s place for practice - so we sat out on the porch with a single camping light and played music. Craig’s retirement party at the White Horse tonight!

Year of Queens. Day 72. @fleetwoodsavl tonight at 5pm as part of the @avlfest! With tuba!!!

Year of Queen. Day 72.5. And, yeah, punk rock tuba tonight!
